An excited Josephine was awarded a green cord on the 1st of September. The last green cord awarded to 1st Balgowlah was in 2001. Well done Josephine. At the presentation Josephine talked about her adventurer level journey and about the planning process.
To qualify for my Adventurer Cord, I led a patrol of five girls on a section of the Great North Walk. The 31kilometre hike started at Thornleigh and finished at Apple Tree Bay (Bobbin Head), and went through Berowra Vally National Park. The three days were challenging and enjoyable for the team, and I think that everyone was able to develop their scouting skills. The planning process was long and taxing, but all elements were fundament for the smooth running of the hike. For future scouts hoping to undertake a green cord hike of their own I suggest, getting a patrol set in stone as quickly as possible, and choosing a route that you believe will test your patrol, but also has good scenery and will be exciting to hike. Huge thank you to my scout leader Gary and troop leader Tom, couldn’t have done it without you both.
